Canada Jay in Snowfall

Previous <     > Next

Almost every backcountry enthusiast in B.C. has a story about Canada Jays. They have been known to 'keep people company' in isoIated areas - and indeed - I have had them follow and entertain me for kilometers at a time while hiking through forested areas.
On this occasion, the Jay was parked in a spruce tree watching me engulf an energy bar. It was during one of those real quiet times that can occur in calm snowy conditions. I can't tell you how many times a bird has flown away before I could finish setting up my camera equipment to take an image - but in this case, this patient Cliff bar oficionado stayed around.
