Peyto Lake and Arnica

Arnica wildflowers are the foreground to this classic Rockies vista - a stop that many visitors to Banff Park have on their to see list. If you have visited the lake, it is likely from the manmade viewpoint located in the below trees.

Peyto Lake is perhaps best photographed in early afternoon, when sunlight hits all of the lake surface, bringing out the intense blue colour. In this image, I opted for an earlier time of day, when the light was a little more dramatic on the mountain slopes. In the far distance you can see the reddish hue of smoke, from mid-summer wildfires burning in British Columbia.
